Know Before You Go

Between September 15th and April 15th, you must have a Long Term Visitor Area (LTVA) permit (either a LTVA long-term or a LTVA short-visit permit) to use a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) designated LTVA. Once purchased, you must print your permit receipt and exchange it at one of the following locations during normal business hours, excluding holidays, to receive a valid permit and decal(s):

  • La Posa LTVA - Tyson Wash Contact Station, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., daily, Sept 15 – Apr 15
  • Imperial LTVA Contact Station, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., daily
  • Yuma Field Office, Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

If you arrive after business hours, please park and establish your campsite at the LTVA. The following day you will need to proceed to one of the locations listed above to exchange your permit receipt and receive your official permit and decal(s). The Yuma Field Office, located at 7341 E. 30th Street in Yuma, Arizona, is the only location that will accept electronic receipts.

Once exchanged for the official permit and decal, the LTVA permit is valid at all of the Bureau of Land Management LTVAs:

  • Hot Spring
  • Imperial
  • La Posa
  • Midland
  • Mule Mountain
  • Pilot Knob
  • Tamarisk

The LTVA long-term permit allows use of BLM LTVAs continuously from September 15th to April 15th (a total of 7 months), or for any length of time between those two dates. The LTVA short-visit permit allows use of BLM LTVAs for any 14 consecutive day period from September 15th to April 15th, which begins on the day the receipt is exchanged for the official permit and decal. The LTVA short-visit permit may be renewed an unlimited number of times for the cost of the permit. For the LTVA short-visit permit, the 14-day permit will begin on the day the receipt is exchanged for the official permit and decal.

The LTVA permits are special recreation area permits authorizing permit holders to use the LTVAs, areas that were designated as “special areas.” As a result of this special designation, no discounts apply to the LTVA long term or short-visit permit fee. For use of the LTVAs between April 16th to September 14th, please visit this website for more information. To view the LTVA rules, see the LTVA Supplementary Rules handout.

Cellular and Wi-Fi services may or may not be available at some long-term camping locations, depending on your service provider’s coverage.

No refunds for permit fees are available.
